About TMJ/TMD/CMD Let’s take a moment to understand some of the terminology.
TMJ – is an abbreviation for Temporomandibular Joint, which is the jaw joint connecting the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull (glenoid fossa), and is often used as a catch all term by the general public.
TMD – is Temporo-Mandibular Disorder and is a better term to describe the diseases involving the jaw joints.
CMD – is Cranio Mandibular Disorder which is the most accurate term since it encompasses all the areas involved in this very complex problem and is the condition referring to an imbalance between the jaw joint, the bite, the chewing muscles, and the position of the head and neck to the rest of the body.
Chronic headaches, neckaches, earaches, facial pain and jaw problems can be extremely debilitating. These persistent symptoms are often related to a jaw mal-alignment and bite disorder that can cause a wide variety of painful symptoms. These can occur at various ages as a result of that person’s inability to adapt any longer to their current condition.
Our objective is to help patients with the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ (CMD) disorders to restore proper jaw functions and relieve the pain.
